The present church replaces a chapel built in the mid‑19th century. Construction began in 1894 and the final façade was completed in 1898, thanks to a donation from the Lombart family of chocolatiers, which earned it the nickname “chocolate façade”. The towers and bells were finished in 1900 for the 1900 World’s Fair. When church and state were separated in 1905, the church became the property of the City of Paris and was finally consecrated in 1912. The church has been listed as a historical monument since 2018, because of the beauty of the stained‑glass windows and mosaics produced in the Mauméjean workshops. The church was restored during 2022–2026.
